The short, focused chapters—each exploring a different truth about Jesus’s compassion—make it especially accessible for younger readers or newer Christians. Each chapter builds on the central theme of the book: in Matthew 11, Jesus describes himself as “gentle and lowly in heart.” Other topics include the compassion of Jesus, grace over performance, and rest for the weary.
The girls in my youth group used this book as a Bible study over the summer, and it was one of my favorite studies we did. The discussion questions included in the book made it easy to get conversations flowing. It also offers thoughtful perspectives on Jesus being fully man and fully God at the same time—ideas I had never really considered before. The chapters were the perfect length and not overwhelming, which made it easy to read one chapter a day.
